Chris
has been teaching saxophone to students for over twenty years. Former private students have participated in Connecticut All State Festivals and
some have gone on to major in music in college.
Currently Chris teaches 5th and 6th grade band in New Canaan, Connecticut and finds it tremendously rewarding. "I think of what Joe Henderson, the legendary
jazz saxophonist said, when he compared it to planting trees. Teaching children to play musical instruments is like planting musical trees, with
the hope that they will all grow to appreciate live music and become knowledgeable musical consumers when they grow up!"
During the summer months, Chris teaches the jazz program at the Trumbull Summer Music Camp where the middle school and high school children receive
instruction in jazz ensemble, improvisation, and composition.
Chris has been a guest soloist and clinician at schools in the Tri State area for their jazz programs.
Chris is a Connecticut certified music teacher, and is also a Connecticut certified adjudicator for their regional and state music festivals. He is a member of MENC-The National Association for Music Education, and CMEA (Connecticut Music Educators Association) and was vice president of the Connecticut IAJE (International Association of Jazz Educators) unfortunately now defunct! Chris is a member of Phi Beta Mu, the International Band Masters fraternity.
Chris has limited openings in his private studio, where students study how to play their instrument! Play along series such as the Jamey Aebersold series
and Jim Snidero's Jazz Conception are used. Chris also uses Band-In-A-Box, classic recordings, and transcriptions of the great jazz artists. You
must listen and immerse yourself in the great wealth of recorded jazz that is available to begin to understand, appreciate and learn the music. It is a life-long study.
